On my last weekend in Eonyang, I wanted to hike up to the top of the local mountain and watch the sun set. I took photos of the city as the sun went down. I can spot my apartment in the photo. South Korea is populated by sponsored apartment buildings, with places like Samsung Apart in the foreground. You’ll see multitudes of the same apartments throughout the country. Despite being in a rural area, people prefer the dense urban living of apartment complexes.
I prefer houses myself - getting back to Australia after such a long absence I can’t believe how green and spread out it is. Everyone lives in houses here.

Fireworks at Ilsan Beach on Flickr.Via Flickr:
I arrived so late at the Daeboreum Fire Festival but not too late to miss the fireworks. In fact I had no idea they were going to go off, but conveniently I had my tripod handy, whipped out the legs and started pressing my remote shutter release as fast as I could. Surprise fireworks are fun!!

These fireworks exploded against the moonlit sky at the Daeboreum Fire Festival in Ulsan. The celebration is part of Lunar New Year, hence the moon!

I Love You on Flickr.Via Flickr:
Happy Valentine’s Day! I was camping on a beach last year and it gave me a good chance to try out light painting for the first time. This was by far the best image of the night, “I love you”.
Hope you all have a little bit of love today :)

Sunset over Busan on Flickr.Via Flickr:
Dongbaek Park is one of the best locations for taking night shots of Busan. There are the fantastic towers in front, and in the back is the beautiful Gwangan bridge.
It was very cold when I was taking these photos but well worth the effort. I could tell by the clear day that this would be a perfect evening for sunset photography. I was practically running to the end of the park with my tripod in tow to make it in time for these shots. But I got there in time.
If you are in Busan, I recommend checking out Dongbaek Park - there were several photographers there when I visited but none with tripods. You can easily walk there from Haeundae beach.

From the top of Mt Gaji on Flickr.Via Flickr:
A couple of weeks ago I went hiking in the height of winter up Mt Gaji, near Ulsan in South Korea. It’s the second time I’ve done this hike but this time was much easier because we took the right path!
It was so cold my water bottle was freezing. We reached the top, took some photos and legged it back down the mountain because of the wind chill factor. It was a perfectly clear day and you could see for miles. Hiking in winter is made possible by small slip-on spikes you can buy for your shoes.
In the front you can see “The Rock” which is one of the key landmarks on the hike. I have another photo of it in Spring. It looks completely different. See if you can spot the person in the photo. He’s really, really small.

Icy waterfalls on Flickr.Via Flickr:
Slowly, slowly the ice is melting in Ulsan. It’s getting a little warmer every day, despite this week’s attempt to drop into the minus temps again.
This photo was taken near Paraeso Waterfall between Ulsan and Miryang in South Korea. It’s a long exposure of the icy falls below the main waterfall.

Yangsan Panorama on Flickr.Via Flickr:
I was hiking a couple of weeks ago near Geumjeongsan in Busan. While out I snapped this panorama of Yangsan. The mountains are a central part of the Korean landscape. Cities are built around the mountains, wherever you are you can always find a mountain to climb.
The resolution of this panorama is 48 megapixels when stitched together in photoshop. It looks great large, but unfortunately you can’t get all the details on screen.

Usually Paraeso waterfall is a valley full of clear, streaming water. Not so in winter, as the waterfall has frozen solid.
I visited the fall on the weekend and watched as Korean kids tested the ice by ramming it with giant sticks. The water is slowly melting, spring is coming. It made for some beautiful long exposures.

Yesterday I went for a short hike to Paraeso Waterfall near Ulsan, South Korea. It’s pretty spectacular right now, because it’s partly frozen, but the ice is beginning to melt. So I got a lot of photos with running water and icicles as well.
This shot is of one of the smaller streams leading up to the waterfall.
